A freight network without emissions
The shipping company Viridis Bulk Carriers has signed letters of intent with five cargo owners, Saltimport among them, to develop a freight network based on ammonia-powered ships. The goal is to offer short-sea shipping with a far lower climate footprint than today's solutions.
Flexibility and volume working together
By combining several types of cargo in the same network, the ships can be filled better and run more efficiently, while safety stays on par with conventional vessels. The shipping company expects to order the first ships during 2022, with delivery from 2024/25.
Sea transport accounts for a significant share of CO2 emissions in many value chains.
Why this matters to us
- Saltimport ships large volumes of salt along the coast
- Greener shipping reduces emissions in our own value chain
- Cooperation with other cargo owners gives better capacity utilization
Part of a larger effort
The project is open to more environmentally ambitious cargo owners who want to help build the zero-emission sea transport of the future.
