Three main types to choose from
Norwegian roads are kept open through the winter with several types of salt. The most common are sea salt, rock salt and brine, and each suits different situations best.
Sea salt is the most used
Sea salt has a coarser grain size than rock salt, so it stays on the road surface longer. It is the salt type most municipalities and contractors use along the coast.
Rock salt for the coldest areas
In Northern Norway, where temperatures often fall far below zero, many prefer rock salt. It is naturally dry and tolerates a lower freezing point than sea salt.
Brine gives a quick effect
Brine is made by mixing road salt with water. The solution spreads evenly across the road surface and starts working right away, which makes it increasingly popular in the larger cities.
No single salt type suits the whole country. The choice should match the climate and the road network.
Order early
Saltimport recommends ordering the winter season's salt before the first night frost, so your stock is ready when the cold arrives.
