Rock salt is the second most used road salt type in Norway.
Rock salt is the second most used road salt type in Norway. It is extracted from salt mines and therefore contains less moisture than sea salt. The dry salt is well suited to storage in bags at colder temperatures. Less moisture means rock salt has a higher share of fine-grained salt. Can be stored outdoors.
Bulk rock salt works well in areas with low temperatures and where the salt needs to dissolve quickly. The grain size lets the salt work its way down into the road surface and act fast. It is used on roads that need fast ice removal, since this type of salt contains less moisture and has a finer grain than traditional road salt.
