The sun does the work
Sea salt is produced by evaporation in salt ponds along the Mediterranean, in countries such as Spain, Tunisia, Italy and Egypt. Sun and wind draw out the water and the salt crystals are left behind, with no fossil fuel used in the extraction itself.
Two uses, two qualities
Sea salt for roads has a coarse grain size that lets it stay on the road surface for a long time. Sea salt for fish is washed and centrifuged in a separate process, making it cleaner and better suited to salting fish and clipfish.
Purity and whiteness are decisive for customers in the fishing industry, not just for road maintainers.
New use in land-based aquaculture
In RAS facilities, where large volumes of water are cleaned and reused, salt plays an important role in fish health. In the Faroe Islands, salt is used in all smolt facilities to prepare the fish for seawater before release, and Iceland is moving in the same direction.
Long experience with sea salt
Saltimport has supplied salt since 1915, and knows the needs of both the road sector and the fishing industry for quality salt.
